Description
The city of Chicago has been the home to great authors, poets, and playwrights as well as the setting for some classics of American Literature. Throughout the year, we have been reading and discussing works by authors such as Carl Sandburg, Gwendolyn Brooks, Ernest Hemingway, etc. Students have also been given opportunities to write their own poem, vignette, and fiction piece and have engaged in writer's workshops during our Agora meetings. Now that we have learned about these authors, we will be visiting some notable locations from their lives and works during the week of April 25th. Our experiences will range from a bus tour of Chicago neighborhoods to a service opportunity in Galesburg at the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site to a poetry writing workshop at the Poetry Foundation. After our trip concludes, we will create our own Anthology featuring works by students.
